The hotel’s attention to detail was impressive, from the personalized service to the thoughtful amenities. The location was also a major plus, making it easy to get around the city.
The History

One of the premiere hotels built in the 1920’s, The Benjamin Royal Sonesta New York represents the early evolution of skyscraper design in New York City.
The hotel’s special character and aesthetic have contributed to its value as part of the city’s development, heritage, and cultural characteristics, becoming an official New York City landmark in 2017.
The Design
Originally designed as the residential-style Beverly Hotel with wind swept terraces to entertain, the Neo-Romanesque edifice exuded the ambience of a private club and is one of the most recognized works by famed architect Emery Roth. The edifice inspired artist Georgia O’Keeffe, she painted it as the subject of her piece “New York—Night.”

The Restoration
Following an extensive restoration preserving The Benjamin Royal Sonesta New York’s legacy and redefining the future, we are honored to debut newly renovated sophisticated interiors, featuring stylish furnishings infusing a residential feel and unique touches.
Custom artwork with an ode to New York City is integrated throughout the luxurious guest rooms and suites. While the lobby strives to capture the spirit of Midtown, the hotel’s guest rooms and suites are where our guests come home.

Rest & Renew Program
The Benjamin Royal Sonesta prioritizes quality sleep for guests, especially during travel, through its Rest & Renew program. With scientifically backed tools and tips from sleep medicine & meditation expert, Dr. Rebecca Robbins, we have developed a comprehensive program of sleep optimizing and self-renewal solutions.

The Mascot
Owls are considered a celebrity in the city that never sleeps—they’ve even been written up in the Paper of Record: The New York Times. All the news that’s fit to print is one thing, but at The Benjamin Royal Sonesta New York we have a step above: royalty. Meet The King of New York. One gaze from this regal owl’s eyes always sets the Big Apple abuzz.
